Roger Avary Writes Short Story for Sarah Morris Catalog

LONDON — Roger Avary’s short story Crease Settles for Nothing accompanies the catalog for the new Sarah Morris exhibition White Cube Bermondsey, where the artist will be presenting a film and new paintings as part of an exhibition titled “Bye Bye Brazil.”

Named after Carlos Diegueus’s 1970s film, which captured the modernisation of contemporary Brazil, the show focuses on the country “on the eve of another era of dramatic change.” Produced in 2012, In Rio is Morris’s 11th film, and depicts the complex, and frequently contradictory nature of a city – presenting both a highly orchestrated, smooth veneer, and the more challenging realities of urban sprawl. A new series of paintings titled “Rio” accompany the work, presenting vivid compositions of curves, vectors, and interlocking spheres. The exhibition is accompanied by an illustrated catalogue featuring essays by Roger Avary and Bettina Funcke.
